Hackathon Repository

Below is a list of projects that have been started at our Conservation Hackathons. Here you will find links to the data and source code used for each project.

Data Visualisation – RedList Threats

developed by Tom August and Sandra Szenti

ThreatWordCloud
This word cloud visualisation takes data directly from the written threat descriptions in the IUCN RedList for mammals in different conservation categories (e.g. vulnerable, critically endangered, extinct). The image above shows a screenshot of threats facing vulnerable species. This code was produced during the HacktheRedList hackathon in November 2014.

You can see the webpage Tom and Sandra produced about the project here – Hack the Redlist.

Endangered Plant Species by Country

developed by Tom Edwards and Matthew Blisset

EndangeredPlantSpecies

This visualisation uses the D3 Waterman Butterfly projection, and shows the number of critically endangered (CR), endangered (EN) and vulnerable (VU) plant species by country, using data from the Sampled Red List Index. This code was produced during the HacktheRedList hackathon in November 2014.
